Driving Directions:

26 miles east of Birmingham on US-280 turn south on Hwy-25 in Harpersville, toward Wilsonville. Cemetery is 1/2 mile on left, across from Harpersville Fire Dept & United Methodist Church.

Brief Cemetery


The Harpersville Garden of Memories has served this community and surrounding area of northeast Shelby County since the days of “Big Spring” and before the legal establishment of Shelby as a County, or Alabama as a State. Many hearty pilgrims moved into these fertile valleys just west of the Coosa River even before the War of 1812.

Cemetery serves the congregations of some 20 churches throughout northeast Shelby County.

Over 3,000 burial sites within the ground, including a Revolutionary War Patriot William Jennings; 13 veterans of the Civil War; 11 veterans of WW-I; 53 veterans of WW-II; 20 of Korea, and 13 of the Vietnam War. Oldest recorded grave is of Orpha Moore (1772-24 Mar 1823). Continuing burials are accepted within the expanded site.

Blacksmith shop, closest building on the left.

Photo history: Mr. A. E. Turner Jr. gave a copy of the original

photograph to Vera Garrett Justice (wife of Aubrey Justice); then (my)

Aunt Vera gave a copy of the picture to Frances Justice Warren. Finally

Aunt Frances gave a copy of the photo to my mother, Martha Justice

Abernathy; and she printed this copy for me.

Thanks go out to everyone who has passed on this bit of Calcis history!
